I also paint scenery and murals

For the last few years I have voulunteered to paint scenery for our local summer play.

Usually what happens is that I am given an idea of what is needed and then paint it in emulsion paint on flat boards. These are then fixed together to make the large backdrops for the plays. I  have also painted objects that have been made as props. A friend created a teapot from willow and papier mache, and I painted a Clarice Cliff style design on it. I painted murals in the back room of the Leopard pub over 10 years ago. The final painting is of Clarice Cliff coffee, milk and sugar pots, in the Umbrella design, from the 1930s I think? This was painted onto the wall there, using emulsion paints onto lining paper stuck directly onto the wall.

In previous years I did a few murals as part of a team with our local council. These included art at a local school, at a hospital, and in a park. My main problem these days is that my knees ache and my balance is not as good as it was. But I still enjoy creating things on a large scale. I’m hoping to do more this year.
