this is another work in progress. Little owl, acrylic on canvas.
The smallest species of owl in the country I think. I’m adding holly branches to make it more seasonal.
The picture is about 6 inches by 4 inches. I want to work on the feathers and legs and feet.
Those eyes look like they are about to blink at me, and I can imagine the soft but strong feathers fluffed up against a north wind…
As the nursery rhyme goes. .
The North Wind shall blow,
And we shall have snow,
And what shall poor Robin do then?
He’ll sit in a barn,
And kerp himself warm,
And tuck his head under his wing
This is a half painted picture which I thought could be turned into a story.
The Tiger who hid is based on the green man myth, but instead of a human face I started to paint a cat, but with leaves hiding part of its face. I also thought of the tiger in the jungle painting by Henri Rousseau? (not sure if that’s the correct name).
I imagine the tiger protecting itself not only by the camouflage of its stripes. But also by using leaves and branches to hide. So that it becomes indistinguishable from the background. I can see the idea in my mind, the book would be full of illustrations. The Tiger would be kind and would persuade people in the end that its family should live. I don’t know if this makes sense. But it might be fun to try and put together.
Let me just say. I have strange ideas sometimes. I’ve already painted a cat fish, and by looking at this painting of a dog fish you can probably guess what it looks like!
Continuing with my Green Man idea I have also painted another free figure. I decided to use a more graphic style for both of them.
The tablet I use is getting very slow and this bit of typing is taking ages so I will leave it at that for tonight .
My cat tipped his box up today and seemed to enjoy sitting in it like that. Each end of the box has a hole in it and he could see his sister through the hole. He pounced on her a few times, with that bottom waggle that cats do.
I know it makes a mess of the house, but the cats love boxes and how could you say no to this?
Cat jumps into box …
Cat jumps onto chair …
Cat jumps up to windowsill….
Box tips up
Chair is now occupied by cat.
Plant falls off window ledge.
Cause and effect?
Cat thinks it’s just normal.
Human tidies up box,
Human picks cat off chair, cat sits on humans lap.
Human replaces plant, cat knocks it off again, and again, and again.
Humans never learn!
